Too young to be old - By JAX
Dear Ladies,
They said we never forget our first love.
And they weren't lying.
If I close my eyes I can see his smile. I can tell when he's angry, happy, or hungry. I know the exact amount of sugar and milk he likes in his coffee. I know he hates the sun and that cool, cloudy, pine-tree-filled places are his favorites. I can't blame him, I also like forested mountains, the smell of wet ground, and a fire burning in the chimney corner. We have the same humor and have fun sending memes to each other. We know exactly what movie we want to watch without needing to say it. We talk to each other with our eyes, without the need for words, and no one but the two of us understands the language our souls speak. Neither he nor I like chocolate, but we both love a good cup of coffee.
When we have to go somewhere, he opens the door for me and lets me go in first. When I need silence, he makes sure I get it. If I have a need, he always tries to satisfy it even if he has more needs than I do. When something is bothering me, he makes sure things stop hurting. He would never let anyone hurt me, and if someone does, he sure as hell won't sit back and watch the other person succeed. When he knows he hurt me, he's quick to apologize.
With him, trips are never long enough. I know that our favorite trip is when we go to the place where we were both born and the one we miss so much. I remember the excitement that surrounds us when we see the lights of our beloved city shining in the darkness of the night, shining at our feet, getting closer and closer as we drive. I remember the times when the music would be playing at full volume in the truck and we would sing the lyrics of the songs by heart. I remember that we didn't care if someone saw us dancing like crazy in the middle of the supermarket aisle, it was just the two of us having fun and enjoying life.
I remember that random note with an βI love youβ on a background of green horses running in all directions that he left on my desk and that now I keep very carefully.
They said we never forget our first love.
And they weren't lying.
Because a father is the first man who comes into our lives. He is the first to see us walk. He is the first to get on his knees to take our tears away. He is the first to ask for forgiveness when he makes a mistake. He is the one who holds our hand when we cross the street, he is the one who makes sure we walk on the safe side of the sidewalk. He is the first who is willing to put his hand in the fire for us. He is the first to see us as a priceless treasure. He is the first to lovingly tell us that we are wrong, he is the first who wants to see us grow and succeed in our dreams. He is the first man we learn to love, respect and, yes, sometimes forgive. Because a father is also the first to break our hearts.
Ladies, remember who your first love is. And if you can, let him know. But if for one reason or another you can't tell him, I want you to know that above all things we have a Heavenly Father who is always willing to adopt us and who will never abandon us. Who forgives our every mistake, who provides us with everything we need, and who will never be too old to fear that he will leave.
On a day like today, make sure you tell your first love how much you love him. Maybe not with words, but you know him, you know what he likes and doesn't like, make him feel loved. On a day like today, when all girls are expecting flowers or a date, make the man who taught you that you deserve those flowers know that he did a great job being your first love. Because HE deserves it. Men deserve it.
Don't wait until he's too old.
By the way, happy Valentine's Day!

Random tip: carry a fork with you. If someone tries to rob you, pull it out of your pocket and say, βThank you Lord for this meal Iβm about to haveβ and charge at them with the fork, especially if they're your siblings. (Not my advice, but my friend's. Although it sounds pretty much like something I could have said.) Let me know if it works!

This has all the feels. Wonderful reminder. π
